Life has turned 360 degrees and we are trying so hard to keep it together. The only thing that keeps me going is the wonderful service you are providing. Jamie Carolo, 16, a student in Pleasanton states her volunteer motivations, “It’s the simple fact that it benefits another person who is less fortunate. While I am young and have my health on my side, I wish to use all my energy towards making another’s life easier. Volunteering is a simple yet effective way for myself and my peers to use our resources and give back. The negative effects of cancer have always been prominent in my life, my Grandmother has gone through colon, breast and lung cancer. A best friend of mine recently beat leukemia/lymphoma, and I strive to alleviate the stress and hardships of cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones.”

The mission of the Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation (SJWHTF) is to provide cancer patients, during their treatment period, with financial assistance for complementary healing services.

Complementary and integrative healing therapies include: acupuncture, acupressure, therapeutic massage, deep breathing meditation and visualization. These healing therapies can provide relief for neuropathy, anxiety, stress, aches, fatigue, nausea and pain.

The foundation originally was founded as a Charitable Fund under the Tri-Valley Community Foundation in August 2008. On August 2010, it became a 501 (c) (3) status non-profit foundation based in Pleasanton, CA. It currently has over 100 volunteers.

Ginger can help reduce nausea

Filed under: Healing Therapies Foundation — sjwfoundation @ 4:28 am

A large National Cancer Institute-funded study found that people undergoing chemotherapy who take as little as one-quarter of a teaspoon of ginger daily for three days before chemo cut their nausea by 40 percent.  The study found that a small amount of fresh or powdered ginger worked better than a larger dose, and that ginger taken with anti-vomiting drugs worked better to control nausea than drugs alone.  Source: aarp.org/bulletin Nov 2011
