Artistic expression is a lifelong journey for Kim. Thanks to the influence of her highly talented grandfather, she inherited a love of creative exploration – in the visual arts, music, writing and the garden. Having received a BA in Fine Arts from Binghamton University, it was after a trip to Israel in 2001 that she discovered the art of jewelry making. Forging a partnership with a family from Jerusalem, she began importing and selling their finely fashioned jewelry.

Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation Receives $10,000 Grant

Sandra and Gracie at Ragin Cajun 2010Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation

Receives $10,000 Grant

To Help Tri Valley Cancer Patients Access Healing Therapies

Local cancer patients seeking pain relief during chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment will be the beneficiaries of a new $10,000 Kaiser Permanente grant awarded to the Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation.
This award will enable the Foundation to provide immediate relief to at least 10 cancer patients in the Tri Valley by helping them pay for complementary therapies – such as therapeutic massage, acupressure, acupuncture, deep breathing techniques, guided meditation and/or visual imagery sessions – during their cancer treatments. These therapies are typically not covered by insurance.
“We are so thankful for this Kaiser grant. Every day, we hear stories from cancer patients about how much healing therapies helped get them through their chemotherapy and radiation treatments,” said founder Sandra J. Wing, a dual cancer survivor. “In our first year, we supported 24 cancer patients. This grant is such a wonderful gift as we begin our second year, and gives us a great start toward our goal of helping even more cancer patients experience pain relief.”
To be eligible for a Foundation grant, applicants must be diagnosed with cancer; under the care of a physician; undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment; reside in Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, or Danville; and not have medical insurance which covers the complementary service(s) they desire.

Applications are now being accepted for 2010 grants. Interested applicants can apply online at www.healingtherapiesfoundation.org or call (866) 862-7270 for an application. Friends, family members, and caregivers are encouraged to help the patient complete the application.

The Foundation is supported by donations to the Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Charitable Fund, a component fund of the Tri-Valley Community Foundation, a tax-exempt organization. Donations are tax-deductible. To learn more about the Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation, go to www.healingtherapiesfoundation.org.

Sandra J Wing Healing Therapies Foundations Awards 35th Grant to Cancer Patient

Cancer Patients Receive Healing Therapies Grants

We have wonderful news to share: This week, we awarded our 35th grant to a local cancer patient! This is a great milestone for our foundation and one we wanted to celebrate with you, our supporters. The majority of our funding comes from individuals donors, so we thank you for your continuing support. It is both a privilege and a blessing to present these $1,000 grants to cancer patients in the Tri Valley.

As you know, our grant money is provided to cancer patients in Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon and Danville who are under a doctor’s care and undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation. Our funds are used for acupuncture, acupressure, guided/visual imagery, deep breathing meditation and therapeutic massage. These are complementary treatments – not alternative therapies. And, that’s an important distinction. In fact, it’s the most commonly asked question – and usually the biggest point of confusion – about what we do.

These complementary healing therapies are focused on improving the patient’s quality of life WHILE they are going through chemotherapy or radiation – not in place of those cancer treatments. We chose these five specific complementary healing therapies because they focus on reducing the side effects of traditional cancer treatments.

If you would like to know more about our grants or have any questions, please visit our website at www.healingtherapiesfoundation.org Thanks for your support!
